In past (VERY past) posts, I talked about some ducks landing in our pool and Red the Ween being semi interested in them- lunging, barking, then backing off because they had wings and he (clearly) did not. Well...I bring to you a sad, but true story of some ducks.
One lovely afternoon, I was driving on the Tollway (sort of over by my good friend Joel's house) when all of the sudden, I see a Mama Duck and about 7 baby ducklings waddling across my side of the Tollway. (Get out your Kleenex now, Kiska.) So, I see the ducks and I look in my rear view mirror and swerve to miss this poor family. However, I am just one car out of many traveling at this time of day. As I swerve, I look behind me to see what the other cars are doing...They are all over the road. I mean, you would think this were a damn video game or something...Lo and behold though, there was a car unable to skid out of the way of nature and about 15 seconds later, all the ducks were gone. Feathers tossed in the air. Gone. D-E-A-D. It was so sad, I called Abe in sheer panic and tears. I just couldn't get that sight out of my head. It was tragic. Why did that Mama Duck lead her babies across the Tollway for God's sake? The other side was no promise land- it was Carrollton for Pete's Sake!
When telling this sad, but true story to my dad, he had a very sage comment, "Well, that Mama Duck just made a bad decision."
Seriously.
